You can't always merge two good things into a third, but occasionally you might hit on a winning combination. Much like Julia David Chandler, inventor of the peanut butter & jelly sandwich, Bay Area Producer-DJs Brycon & Maitre D have given the world a new recipe with broad and timeless appeal; their own musical PB&J, a 16 track album entitled "Cymandre 3000".
This musical sandwich arrives to the world with auspicious timing, as the two main ingredients are both embarking in exciting new directions. One, with a new album and documentary telling their long-mythologized story, and the other, stepping back from his unclaimed throne officially, to pursue, in a twist for the ages, jazzy flute work. Pairing the Nyah-rock legends Cymande with the defiant King of the South, Andre 3000, is a treat perfect for music lovers who can't get enough of the funk, and heads clamoring for new raps from the ever-evolving 3 Stacks.
Maitre D & Brycon have been frequent collaborators over the last decade, but this work showcases their creative abilities in a new and eye-opening way. Blending elements from Andre's vast catalog with material from the first 3 iconic Cymande albums, the 16 tracks manage to merge these combustible elements in a surprisingly cohesive manner. The results are at once both familiar and refreshingly new, a testament to the futuristic nature of the source material.
With a project of this magnitude comes a heavy responsibility to deliver the goods, but this unlikely pairing proves almost too good be true. It's kinda like peanut butter and jelly, but totally different. It's Cymandre 3000.
